ABOUT BCO

Who are we?

Brisbane Concert Orchestra (formerly know as Brisbane Musica) is one of Queensland's longest-running orchestras, established in 1966 by John Curro, AM, MBE; one of Queensland's most awarded and sought-after conductors.

The orchestra is under professional musical direction by Bernie Hoesman and has membership from all walks of life including music educators, advanced students and keen amateurs. Brisbane Concert Orchestra is a non-profit community orchestra, which means that members voluntarily give their time and musical expertise to play music - both for their own enjoyment and for the local community's. The orchestra funds itself through members' contributions and performance donations.

We welcome new members who play strings, woodwind, brass or percussion instruments. The general standard of our players is at least AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) grade 6.

What type of repertoire does the orchestra play?

The repertoire of the orchestra consists of classical and light entertaining music. Typical concert performances could include music from Beethoven to Bernstein, or from Mozart to Mancini.

We are available for weddings, fund-raising functions, choral accompaniments and various other events and can be hired for a modest fee.

How is the orchestra managed?

The orchestra has been an incorporated body (The Concert Society Orchestra Inc.) for the past 13 years and so we are governed by a committee which consists of about 10 current players, each of whom have a specific role within the committee. New ideas are always welcome! Committee positions are by nomination from members of the orchestra.

Who is the leader of the orchestra?

Gregory Seeto joined the Brisbane Concert Orchestra in 2007. Greg studied the violin, piano and tuba and has a love for music composition and performance.

In addition to his involvement with the Orchestra, he has performed with the Brisbane Regional Youth Orchestra, Queensland Musical Theatre, the Queensland Orchestra’s Corporate Orchestra and numerous pit orchestras for a range of musical productions.

Outside of music, he works as corporate/commercial lawyer for a top tier law firm and conducts volunteer beach patrols for Surf Lifesaving Queensland.

Notice to BCO members
Parking space for BCO

Just a reminder that parking arrangements at All Hallows' School have changed. Both the Ann Street and Story Bridge entrance gates will be closed from 6 PM. We need to park in the parking area below the pool.
Go along Ann Street past the school and Antrim Street (it is one way) and then turn left into Boundary Street. Just a little way along, on the left, there is the entrance to Dodge Lane. At the end of Dodge Lane (do not turn left to Antrim Street), turn right into the school gate. You will find the parking area there.
