Desmond William Sanderson

It is with profound regret that we advise members and friends that our President, Des Sanderson died suddenly on Saturday, 20 March. We are deeply saddened and shocked and send our heartfelt condolences to Jean and her family.

Des has been the backbone of the orchestra since 1988 as well as being our superb Double Bass player. His love of music and music making meant so much to him in his latter years and he became very involved in several groups with disparate styles of music.

Des has been the President of our Committee as long as most of us can remember - a role which he filled with grace and distinction. It is a tribute to Des’ commitment and enthusiasm that our orchestra is the strong organisation that it is today.

He was truly a good man and we will remember him with great fondness and grateful thanks and hope that his experience with a stringed instrument will stand him in good stead when he tackles a harp!
