Power and Passion
Join the Brisbane Concert Orchestra as it presents Power and Passion, the first concert in its 2020 Flagship Series.
Under the baton of Musical Director Matthew Schwarz, the orchestra will pull at your heartstrings with performances of the Intermezzo from Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, the Adagio from Khachaturian’s Spartacus and excerpts from Bizet’s famous opera, Carmen!
We will feature talented local violinist Julia Hill performing the 1st and 2nd Movements of Mendelsohn’s ever popular Violin Concerto in E Minor. The orchestra will finish the night off celebrating the 250th Birthday of Beethoven with a movement from the famous Symphony No. 5 in C Minor.

Julia Hill is a third-year Bachelor of Music candidate majoring in classical violin at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. Guided by former Arditti Quartet member, Graeme Jennings, Julia has propelled her love of music to new heights while intensely studying her instrument. Recent achievements include Principal Second Violin of the Queensland Youth Symphony 2019 and Concertmaster of the Curro Chamber Orchestra at the Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camp 2020.
Julia has been awarded a 2020 New Colombo Plan Scholarship which has provided her the opportunity to undertake study, internships and language training in Japan. While on her program, she hopes to learn how classical music is perceived and approached in Japan, with the intention of implementing her findings on return to Australia.
When she is not playing violin or studying scores, Julia loves a good book followed by a decent nap.
