about us
The OrchestraAs Queensland’s longest running community orchestra, the Brisbane Concert Orchestra (BCO) is renowned for its highly energetic performances of both classical and popular repertoire.
Formed in 1966 by Australian conductor John Curro AM MBE as the resident orchestra for the Warana Festival (now known as the Brisbane Festival), BCO has since performed to great acclaim across south-east Queensland, recently celebrating its 50th Anniversary with a sold-out gala concert in Brisbane City Hall, Main Auditorium. In 2015, BCO appointed its current Musical Director, Matthew Schwarz and has since grown in sound and strength to become a 65-member ensemble. Under Matthew’s musical leadership, BCO maintains a very busy performance schedule, producing several of its own concerts per year at major performance venues, a highly popular Kiddies Cushion Concert as well as free public performances in the Queen Street Mall, and tours to wineries in Stanthorpe. |
